R. Wayne Mezitt is a 3rd generation nurseryman and a Massachusetts Certified Horticulturist. He is chairman of Weston Nurseries of Hopkinton and Chelmsford, MA, now also serving as a Trustee for the Massachusetts Horticultural Society at Elm Bank, Wellesley, MA, and Editor of The Leaflet, MHS's monthly electronic member newsletter. He has served as president of the Massachusetts Nursery and Landscape Association (1976-78), the New England Nursery Association, (1984) and the American Horticulture Industry Association (“AmericanHort”) (2002-3, when it was the American Nursery and Landscape Association), now based in Columbus, Ohio and Washington, DC. Several years ago he formed “Hort-Sense”, a horticultural advisory business that utilizes his knowledge and experience, providing practical horticultural advice to help clients use plants effectively.
Upon graduating Hopkinton High School in 1960, Wayne earned a BA degree in Economics, Cornell University 1964. He joined his dad Edmund at Weston Nurseries, the family business started by his grandfather Peter J. Mezitt, after earning his MBA from Cornell’s Samuel C. Johnson Graduate School of Management in 1966. Married to Elizabeth Pickering (Cornell BA 1965) in 1965, they have 4 children (Peter, Laurel, Cyndy, Brian) and 9 grandchildren.
